Ottawa Township High School Booster Club
From Julie Angus, Booster Club President, in place of May meeting.
May 13, 2020
Hello Friends and Members,
I hope you are keeping your families safe and healthy. Another month has passed, and we are still operating under the shelter-in-place order that was established in March. Much uncertainty surrounds possible extensions of that order and when we might be allowed to gather in small or large groups. Until we can all comingle safely, remote communication appears to be the new norm!
Since we are unable to get together for our regularly scheduled May 13th meeting, I thought I would provide you with a short list of some Booster Club updates:
Booster Club Awards – The Scholarship Committee met via Zoom a few weeks ago and awarded several scholarships to those OHS seniors who applied. Kara Ericzon did a fantastic job as the new committee chair. I have to say, it was an honor to review the applications with the committee; we have some outstanding seniors at OHS. Tune in to hear the recipients’ names announced. OTHS Honors Night will be broadcast via YouTube on Friday, May 15th at 7 p.m. Congratulations in advance to all the honorees!
Steak Dinner - We are still tentatively looking at a date in August for the Steak Dinner. We are hopeful that we will be able to reschedule the event on the weekend of Red & White Night, but that decision may be out of our control as COVID-19 cases are updated throughout the summer. Watch our website for Steak Dinner news and information in June and July.
Membership Fee – As has been discussed, we are considering raising the annual fee for the lowest membership level, the Viking level, from $20 to $25. I would like to vote on this at the June meeting, so please take a moment to consider your position on the issue and let me know. Feel free to express any concerns you might have. It is open for discussion.
Next Year’s Officer Team – We also need to vote on and approve a new slate of officers for the 2020-21 school year at the June meeting. All of the current officers have agreed to be nominated to serve in their positions again next year. They are as follows:
Julie Angus – President
Tiffany Ditchfield – Vice President
Debbie Heimsoth – Secretary
Bill Vogel – Treasurer
The nominations have not been closed. If you are interested, or if you know of someone who might be interested in serving as a OHS Booster Club officer, let us know! We would love to have additional nominations. You can contact us through Facebook or text an officer directly with the name of the interested Booster Club member. A full ballot with all the nominations will be posted on our website on Monday, June 8th, before our June 10th meeting. Our bylaws require us to post nominations one month before a vote is taken. If we have other nominations, in addition to those listed above, the officers will be voted on and approved in a special meeting in July.
Any other old or new business? – Please let me know if you have any other old or new business that the Booster Club needs to attend to. All of the officers are trying to keep the organization moving forward during the COVID-19 pandemic, but I am sure there are a few things that may have been overlooked.
Finally, to all of the graduates of the class of 2020, congratulations, and we wish you much success in the next chapter of your lives! The community has enjoyed watching all of you grow as students, athletes, and performers at OHS over the past four years. And to all of the members of the OHS Booster Club, I have missed you dearly these past two months. I hope to see everyone in Room 420 soon! Until then, stay safe and healthy.
